St. John's Centre for the Arts is the product of a long and beautiful history. Founded in 1828 under the Church of England, the parish grew in size, and in 1895, the current building replaced the original.
Deconsecrated in 2014 and left vacant for three years, the Friends of St. John's Arichat obtained ownership of the building and in 2017, St. John's Centre for the Arts opened its door to the public once again
St. John's Centre for the Arts is the product of a long and colorful history. Originally the seat of the Anglican Church on Isle Madame, the site has become an Arichat icon and is now used as a space to celebrate the local arts. Explore our history, its leadership and the families that continue to enrich the community to this day.
The present St. John's building was designed by prolific architect William Critchlow Harris. It is a mission of the Friends of St. John's to seek ongoing support for the maintenance of the historical site through heritage links to governments.
Our amazing team of community members are committed to elevating the diverse and rich culture and arts scene of Isle Madame. We take all opportunities to turn them into inspiring events for the benefit of the entire community. Check us out and let us know that you want to join us in this work.
Arts and cultural events of the season are managed by the Events Committee of the Friends of St. John. The Events Committee is responsible for scheduling and booking events, advertising for each event and tracking those events.
The Friends of St.John supports for the upkeep of the building. The Building Committee oversees general maintenance
and repair of the building by bringing forward plans and quotes for projects. The Finance Committee advises the Board, providing financial oversight relating to planning and expenditures.
